Yes, I’m a lover of food, and I guess you can say I’ve been a glutton, but I’m going to calm that down because I’m supposed to be on a diet right now. But my problem is that I have no clue how to churn out delicious meals on a daily basis. People have laughed at me about it and wondering how is she a woman and can’t cook, and my response almost every time is “I don’t do domestics”. People have also told me if I make food from recipes that still means I can’t cook, but I don’t care about that because that’s how I will learn to cook, by way of recipes. I’m not trying to be a real cook because a real chef knows how to concoct their own recipes themselves. My goal is to be able to make at least five tasty meals for myself and for friends I might make in the future from recipes. I can’t say I’m learning to cook for my family other than my mother, because it’s really too late in the game for me to have children. I’m too old for that and I don’t have the patience I use to have that I need to accommodate children. But if my future buddies have kids, I can cook for them too. I don’t mind.
By cooking my own meals, I hope to save a ton of money. But occasionally I will eat out, but not as much as I have been. A lot of fast food is unhealthier than food you prepare at home so I won’t do it that much, plus I’m supposed to be on a diet, so I can’t over do it when I do eat out. I must do everything in moderation.
Food has always been a convenience thing to me. I use to hate cooking because to me, it takes too long, and you better believe I hate washing dishes at the end. But I’ve heard from others that cooking food is a therapeutic escape which I hope one day it will become for me. I’m not trying to be a chef. I just want to learn how to make a few tasty meals.
Below I am going to list a few cookbooks that I’m interested in getting for myself.
Emeril’s Potluck: Comfort Food with a Kicked-Up Attitude by Emeril Lagasse
Recipes for the Good Life by Patti LaBelle
The New Orleans Kitchen: Classic Recipes and Modern Techniques for an Unrivaled Cuisine [A Cookbook] by Justin Devillier & Jamie Feldmar
